300 MW Baspa-Il hydroelectric project is the largest project to be commissioned in the private sector in India.
Its barrage is at an elevation of 2520.50 metres, the highest altitude for any such structure to come up in India. Snowfall here is of the order of 4 to 5 metres and temperatures as low as ( -) 15 Degree Celsius.
56.70 km 400 kV transmission line (121 towers) passes through an elevation ranging from 1500 to 2800 meters in one of the most difficult terrain involving crossing the valley 13 times and crossing river Satluj twice.
Electromechanical and hydromechanical equipment for this project weighing more than 20,000 tonnes had to be carted over 300 km in hilly terrain.
Eight bridges, spanning up to maximum of 132 metres, were constructed at various locations between Wangtoo, upstream of Nathpa on NH-22 and Kuppa (barrage site) to cater for maximum loading of 70R. (Indian Road Congress classification for bridges to carry wheeled load of up to 100 tons)
This project has been engineered and executed totally by the Group from concept to commissioning except for the electromechanical and hydromechanical equipment which were outsourced. Jaiprakash Associates Limited (formerly JIL) undertook the execution while Jaypee Ventures Limited were responsible for total consultancy and engineering.
